Starting Drug Addiction Treatment: The Steps from Day One to Program Completion

Many people are unsure how to begin the process of entering drug addiction treatment. This article explains the steps from the first contact through to the day the program is completed, so families can prepare with confidence.

Step 1 — Initial Contact and Consultation

The process begins with contacting the team for an initial, free consultation. The team will ask basic questions about the type of substance used, how long it has been used, and the person's current physical and mental condition, in order to recommend a suitable program.

This step can be taken either by the person using substances themselves or by a family member seeking help on their behalf. Information provided is kept strictly confidential and is not disclosed to outside parties, so that the person reaching out feels comfortable sharing accurate information.

Step 2 — Assessment and Program Planning

Once the decision to enter treatment is made, the team conducts a detailed assessment to plan a program suited to the individual, while clearly explaining costs and duration before the program begins.

This assessment covers the history of substance use as well as physical and mental condition, allowing the team to design the most appropriate course of care and prepare to manage any withdrawal symptoms that may occur in the early stage of the program.

Step 3 — Entering the Recovery Process

The person in treatment begins with a physical stabilization phase, followed by psychological therapy, physical and mental rehabilitation, family therapy, and preparation for returning to society — with continuous 24-hour monitoring throughout the entire program.

Step 4 — After the Program Ends

Good rehabilitation should not end on the day a person leaves the center. The team provides guidance for continued self-care after the program to reduce the risk of relapse and help the person return to life in society with greater stability.
